Happy March fellow readers. It is a month of hope as winter releases its last hurrah, and we start looking forward to the warmth of spring. It is also a time where students take a week off from school, rather its in February, March or April. For Elementary and High School students, it’s a time to relax and enjoy some time off. For college students though, it varies based on their situation.
Mid-Term Break in Elementary and High Schools
Commonly know as the March break, it is an opportunity for students to have a week off from the classroom. To get the kids out of the house, there are plenty of activities that kids can do. Indoor or outdoor, there is a good reason to leave the house. With winter still among us, kids and adolescents can take part of various winter activities including skiing, tubing, and skating. Parents can also take their children, if they have off, to museums or to indoor jungle gyms.
Mid-Term Break in Higher Education
Commonly known as reading week, the Mid-Term break gives college students a chance to rest, not stress too much about deadlines, while others traditionally fly down south to get away from the coldness of winter.
Depending on their schedules, it may or may not be a good idea to take a long awaited trip. Factors includes the timing of deadlines and grades. If students have mid-terms or other assignment deadlines immediately following the break, it is best to stay put. Students can also get involved in the community by volunteering or they just stay home and take it easy, unless they have a job.
Recap
Overall, having a week off can help students reset, and to get ready for the last part of the school year or semester. Personally, as a university student, I enjoy having time off halfway into the semester. It gives me time to catch up on personal projects I have been holding, and gives me time to prepare for the second half of the semester.
Enjoy the much needed break because you will be back in class, assuming you’re in school, before you know it!
Until my next blog post, take care and thanks for reading.
